Original S-506 identity and package

This review concerns S-506, UPC 030937005069. Mac's Hardware identifies that model and UPC and describes a 1/4-inch NPT air inlet. Milton's current original-service-station page describes the S-506 in its text but displays an S-506W part field, so the manufacturer's page alone should not erase the package distinction. The linked Amazon record identifies S-506 with the matching UPC. Check the selected offer on that basis and inspect the received label, rather than choosing a similar S-506D or W listing by appearance.

Range, graduations and readability

Milton gives a pressure scale of 10–160 psi in two-psi graduations, with a magnifying window for reading the scale. Those graduations describe visual resolution; they should not automatically be presented as an independently verified accuracy tolerance. The broad range may suit several vehicle types, but correct service pressure comes from the specified application. A tool reaching 160 psi does not make that pressure appropriate for passenger-car tires. For close comparisons or low-pressure specialist work, choose a gauge whose useful range and resolution match the task.

The dual-head valve has a zero-pressure limit

The two chuck heads help approach valves from different directions, useful around wheel geometry and less accessible stems. Milton also warns that this dual-head arrangement cannot inflate a completely flat tire: tire pressure is needed to move the self-sealing valve and close the unused outlet. That is a material limitation when planning recovery equipment. Choose this gauge for appropriate checking and topping-up duties; do not assume it replaces every type of chuck or a specialist tire-service setup. Confirm the right equipment before starting a zero-pressure inflation task.

Air inlet and hose details are separate checks

The exact-model retailer record specifies a 1/4-inch NPT air inlet and a 15-inch hose. Milton also lists a 3/8-24 thread detail on its product page. These are separate connection descriptions and should not be collapsed into one interchangeable fitting size. Identify the actual port when choosing replacement parts or air fittings, and use the tool instructions for installation. The hose provides separation between the body and valve, but it is not a long remote-inflation line or proof of a particular maximum supply pressure.

Serviceable cartridges and regular checks

Milton says the gauge and valve cartridges can be replaced. That can make the original design worth considering for repeated workshop use, since a worn service element need not condemn the complete body. It does not establish a replacement interval or prove that every cartridge sold under the brand fits this package. Confirm replacement parts with the exact model, inspect the hose and chuck, and compare measurement behavior with an appropriate reference when accuracy matters. We have not tested calibration drift, sealing or long-term wear.

Inflation, TPMS diagnosis and valve-core torque

The S-506 adds air and indicates pressure. The Autel TS508WF is an electronic TPMS activation, diagnosis and programming tool for supported systems; it does not replace the air connection. Lisle's 18810 is a preset valve-core torque tool with another distinct job. These products may sit in the same tire-service plan, but they are not competing versions of one instrument. Start with whether the task is inflation, electronic sensor service or correct valve-core installation, then select relevant equipment and confirm the vehicle requirements.
