Choose the application before the peak figure
NOCO lists 2000 A peak and an application up to 8.0 L gasoline or 6.0 L diesel for the GB70. Those statements describe the manufacturer’s intended starting-assistance scope, not a universal guarantee under every temperature, battery condition or connection. Check the vehicle and battery instructions and consider whether that larger application is actually required.
The battery system is a firm boundary
The verified application is 12 V lead-acid starting batteries. Do not extend that to a traction pack, a different voltage or a lithium application without explicit manufacturer approval. Follow the connection and operating instructions for the selected unit and hardware revision. An apparently similar pair of terminals does not establish electrical compatibility.
Recovery should lead to diagnosis
A successful start does not prove that the battery is healthy or that the charging system has corrected the underlying fault. Clore BA9 assesses supported starting batteries; Fluke measurements can investigate circuits; GENIUS5 provides compatible charging. The GB70 supplies starting assistance rather than those other functions. Recurrent discharge deserves investigation instead of repeated boosts without a cause.
GB70 versus the smaller GB40
GB40 has a lower stated engine application and a different current claim. It may be sufficient where portability and a smaller intended workload dominate the decision. Compare actual storage and carrying requirements as well as engine size. For either pack, maintain charge and condition according to NOCO’s guidance, and check the supplied charging arrangement rather than assuming every retailer revision includes the same cable.
