Choose length around the working position

The four included lengths are 1, 3, 6 and 10 inches. A short extension can clear a local obstruction while keeping the ratchet near the fastener; a longer one can move the handle into open space. More length is not automatically better. Assess whether the socket remains aligned and whether the resulting handle position allows a controlled movement.

Grip and retention details

TEKTON lists knurled grip bands and four detent grooves at drive engagement. Those are useful handling and connection features when assembling a reach combination in a crowded area. They do not remove the need to check each connection is fully seated. Inspect retention and square-drive condition, especially if a socket tends to remain on a fastener when the extension is withdrawn.

The power-tool boundary

This set is documented here for hand-drive work. A 3/8-inch square connection is not evidence of impact suitability, and adding an adapter to a cordless tool does not change that. Use accessories expressly rated for the powered tool and intended operation. The distinction matters when a workshop owns both chrome hand sockets and black impact sets in similar sizes.

Inventory before purchase

The TEKTON SKT15311 already includes drive accessories, so compare its exact contents and your owned extensions with this set. A separate set makes sense when it adds a missing reach or permits two tool setups at once. It is less useful when the same lengths remain unused in another case. Treat extensions as part of an access plan alongside socket depth and ratchet head clearance.
