A core drive size with two depth options
The 73-piece set is built around 3/8-inch hand drive and six-point shallow and deep sockets. That combination covers many everyday manual fastening tasks while giving a choice where a stud or nearby structure affects socket depth. It is a foundation for a kit, not proof that every fastener on every vehicle is covered.
Read the size list against the actual workload
The documented ranges are SAE 1/4–1 inch and metric 6–24 mm. Check whether the vehicles you maintain require both systems and identify any specialist fasteners outside those ranges. Torx and external Torx requirements belong to a different profile set such as GEARWRENCH 80742. A socket with the right nominal size still needs the right profile and enough clearance to seat fully.
Avoid buying the accessories twice
The ratchet, extensions and other accessories are part of the kit’s value, but they can also duplicate separate purchases. Compare the contents with SHA91011 before adding it to an apprentice budget. Keep the case inventory current and replace lost sizes deliberately. A missing frequently used socket is a more immediate practical problem than owning another complete box with overlapping contents.
Know when another socket set is appropriate
GEARWRENCH 80300P provides a smaller 1/4-inch approach, while SUNEX 2569 is for 1/2-inch impact use. Neither makes this set obsolete: the drive and intended loading differ. Do not use a drive adapter to reclassify a chrome hand socket as impact-rated. Start with the hand-drive kit when it fits the work, and add the other drive systems to solve specific clearance or powered-removal needs.
