Brake service toolkit

Identify the brake design before choosing retraction tools.

Plan the equipment

Start with the vehicle service procedure and inspect the actual brake arrangement. Measuring pads, retracting pistons and bleeding hydraulics require different tools; buy only the supported method and adapters.

Check the limits

Some rear and EPB systems require a different retraction procedure, while ABS bleeding can require supported scan-tool functions. Do not treat a generic piston compressor or pressure bleeder as universal.

Diagnostics

Innova 5610

5610 bidirectional OBD2 scanner

A handheld diagnostic scanner for owners and workshop users who want fault-code information and supported bidirectional testing without a tablet-style setup. Vehicle coverage and available tests determine how useful it will be in your bay.

Use the manufacturer coverage checker for the exact year, make, model and function; the advertised reset list is not universal vehicle coverage.

Torque wrenches

Choose a calibrated range for the fastener.

Torque

GEARWRENCH 85062M

3/8-inch micrometer torque wrench

A mid-range torque wrench that fills part of the gap between a small inch-pound wrench and the larger 1/2-inch TEKTON. Its 3/8-inch drive is useful where socket size, access and service torque suit this range.

Check units and tightening direction. The published accuracy declaration covers clockwise use in the upper 80% of full scale; do not assume identical accuracy at every low setting.

Socket sets

Separate hand-drive coverage from impact use.

Lisle 28600

Disc-brake piston wind-back tool

A compact wind-back tool for supported rear calipers whose pistons must rotate during retraction. It complements the push-back compressor rather than performing the same operation on every brake design.

Match the engagement face and required rotation to the vehicle. An electronic parking brake may require a separate service mode; this tool does not provide that function.

Floor jacks & jack stands

Lifting equipment and support equipment have separate roles.

Lifting

Arcan A20019

3-ton aluminium low-profile floor jack

An aluminium floor jack for raising a vehicle at its approved lifting points before suitable supports are installed. The low-profile design is useful only where its entry height, reach and lift range fit the vehicle.

Use only on a suitable hard, level surface at approved lifting points. Immediately support the vehicle with appropriately selected stands; never work underneath a vehicle supported only by this jack.

Lifting

ESCO 10498-PAIR

10498-PAIR three-ton performance jack stands

A pair of pin-adjusted jack stands for supporting a suitably raised vehicle at approved support locations. Check working height, saddle contact, ground conditions and the manufacturer’s capacity instructions together.

Manufacturer manual requires pair configuration for supporting a vehicle end. Do not turn the per-stand figure into an unrestricted six-ton vehicle recommendation. Match saddle and support point.

Lifting

SUNEX 6602LP

2-ton steel Low Rider floor jack

A low-entry steel jack for suitable vehicles where the Arcan’s entry height or lift range does not fit the lifting task. Compare chassis reach, lifting-point access and handling weight as well as capacity.

Use on a suitable hard, level surface at approved lifting points. Install correctly selected stands before working beneath a vehicle; a jack’s maximum height alone does not establish vehicle suitability.
