Quick picks

Choose by the task. Read the detailed buying assessment and available full reviews before checking the retailer offer.

Temperature observations complement the inspection. They do not alone certify HVAC performance, combustion safety or concealed building conditions.

HOW TO CHOOSE

What matters for the work

Choose the measurement method

Infrared instruments view a surface. Contact probes need appropriate placement. Record the method instead of treating every temperature as air or internal-fluid temperature.

Use existing permitted access

Choose an instrument for accessible observation points within the agreed scope. Do not create openings or expose hazards simply to use a tool.

Write a bounded finding

Include operating state, location and conditions. A temperature difference should support a specific observation rather than a blanket equipment pass or failure.

BUYING QUESTIONS

Before you choose

Can IR measure supply-air temperature?

An infrared spot tool reads visible surface radiation, not the air itself. Use an appropriate contact air probe for a supported air measurement.

Does a temperature split prove the system is operating correctly?

No. One temperature comparison does not establish delivered airflow, capacity or a complete system assessment.
