Keep the timber drilling role clear
DCD805B is a brushless half-inch drill/driver with hammer mode on the 20V MAX system. A carpenter’s buying reason is supported drilling and controlled assembly on compatible power equipment. Hammer action is not needed for ordinary timber pilot holes. Check the wood-bit capacity and selected mode in the manufacturer documentation rather than inferring suitability from the hammer-drill name.
Access, battery and lighting
The assembled drill needs enough space to approach the fastener without contacting an adjacent finished surface. The bit and fitted pack contribute to that envelope. A conventional head can be the simpler choice when clearance is adequate; installation heads address a different access issue. Customer comments about compactness and lighting are individual observations, not our measurements of clearance or visibility.
Choose the complete package
Existing suitable DeWalt batteries can make the B bare tool a sensible addition. An apprentice buying a first drill should compare a complete kit and the actual employer requirements. Do not buy a second power platform for work a compatible drill already covers. For repeated screw fastening, a suitable impact driver can complement the drill, but delicate hardware and specified fixing methods may still call for controlled driving.
