Choose the fastening job

DCN650B serves a different finish-fixing requirement from DCN680B. Its 15-gauge angled nails are not interchangeable with thin 18-gauge brads, and the visible hole, material thickness and specified joint all matter. Consider this format when recurring casing or substantial trim work calls for it, rather than buying the larger gun because it appears more powerful.

Controls and alternatives

The angled magazine can help some approaches around molding, but the body, battery and contact nose still need clearance. DeWalt lists depth adjustment and tool-free jam and stall controls. We have not measured firing speed or hardwood penetration. Read the required nail format and operating instructions; a similar-looking box of straight finish nails is not automatically compatible.

Build the complete fixing kit

Existing DeWalt batteries make the bare-tool comparison more meaningful. Starting from zero requires a charger and suitable packs as well as the correct consumables. For occasional light decorative trim, an 18-gauge gun may cover the specified task with a smaller hole. For construction fastening, use the required framing system instead: a finish nailer is not a structural upgrade.
