Define the preparation or joinery task
DW735 is a benchtop thickness planer for preparing suitable stock, not a handheld door-fitting tool. Its 13-inch width and two feed options make it relevant when timber preparation becomes regular workshop work. A thickness planer does not automatically create the first flat reference on a warped board. Establish the preparation method and permitted stock before funding the machine.
Model limits and alternatives
DeWalt documents three knives, fan-assisted chip ejection and feed settings of 96 or 179 cuts per inch. Those features do not guarantee no snipe or a finished surface requiring no further work. We have not measured finish quality. The base DW735 package differs from DW735X, which can change included tables and knives; compare the exact offer rather than assuming a bundle photo represents every listing.
When the specialist purchase pays its way
Include material support, chip collection, replacement knives and a place to use and store the station. Fine-dust extractor specifications alone do not establish capacity for a planer's bulk chips. If prepared stock already meets the job, paying the supplier for suitable material may avoid a personal machine. DW734 is a narrower comparison; upgrade because the stock and workload justify the additional format.
