When the added capacity earns its cost

DWS780’s 12-inch sliding dual-bevel format has a clear use when repeated stock exceeds the fixed-saw alternatives or when bevel changes are frequent. DeWalt lists 2x14 dimensional lumber at 90 degrees and 2x10 at 45 degrees. Check the setup and orientation used for each stated capacity. A large machine is not automatically a better first purchase for narrow trim.

XPS and a repeatable station

The documented XPS system provides cutline indication. It helps present the cut, but does not replace measurement, alignment checks or stock support. Set up an appropriate stand and provide room for long boards and machine travel. Use a blade suited to the material. Dust collection also needs a suitable port connection and extraction arrangement; manufacturer percentage claims are not our field measurements.

Alternatives for space and budget

Compare DWS715 where the fixed format covers the work. Bosch GCM12SD’s glide arrangement and Makita LS1019L’s forward rails are worth considering when rear clearance affects the station.
