Choose delivered air over the gallon label

MAC2400 offers a different pneumatic arrangement from a small pancake compressor: twin tanks and an oil-lubricated pump with documented 4.2 CFM delivery at 90 PSI. Compare that figure with the tools and firing rate, then consider the transport. A carpenter running suitable repeated nailer work may value the extra delivery more than compactness; someone moving between small indoor repairs may reach the opposite conclusion.

Maintenance and carrying are real costs

The manufacturer lists oil access and a sight glass, which identify a service routine that oil-free comparisons do not share. Follow the instructions for oil, draining and inspection. Owner feedback includes quiet refill praise and a carrying-weight caveat. These individual accounts help frame the tradeoff but do not establish our measured sound level, recovery result or long-term reliability across a fleet.

Buy the compressor the tools need

EC914S provides another higher-delivery portable comparison with an oil-free arrangement. MAC100Q suits much smaller intermittent demand. Include the hose, couplers and suitable power supply, and make sure the carrying plan works for the actual stairs and vehicle. A first-year apprentice may be better served by the crew’s station until the recurring work justifies a personal supply; machinery ownership is not itself a skill upgrade.
