Keep demolition on the existing platform
XRJ05Z offers an LXT carpenter a full-size reciprocating saw without another battery ecosystem. Its purpose here is supported strip-out and suitable removal cuts, not cabinet-edge finishing. If demolition is infrequent, ask what equipment is supplied before making a personal purchase. A compatible existing pack helps the cost case, but blade choice and charging availability still determine whether the whole arrangement is useful.
A longer stroke needs appropriate clearance
Makita documents a 1-1/4-inch stroke, two speed ranges and a reinforced fixed shoe. Check the cut and movement behind the workpiece rather than treating stroke length as a simple performance ranking. Use the blade and setting allowed for the material. The fixed shoe deserves particular attention when comparing how much of a blade can be used across repeated work; it is a different arrangement from an adjustable shoe.
Avoid unsupported handling promises
The manufacturer’s crank and protection features describe the design. We have not measured vibration, endurance or cutting speed against the M18 and DeWalt options. Compare the loaded saw and working access, including the battery, instead of only the bare-body dimensions. The Z package excludes power equipment. A smaller saw can still be better for a repeated cramped opening, even if a full-size model has greater documented stroke.
