Pins serve a distinct purpose

2540-20 places 23-gauge headless pins rather than brads or finish nails. Its carpenter role is suitable small trim and assembly positioning, where the installation system permits that fixing. Do not assume the smaller visible hole means equal holding power. When adhesive is part of the assembly, its specification and curing arrangement still govern; a pin nailer does not replace proper joint design or clamping where required.

A small repair can favor cordless

Avoiding a compressor and hose can be useful when moving between isolated trim repairs or delicate components. Milwaukee documents support for 1/2- to 1-3/8-inch pins. Check the pin, substrate and edge position, then trial the supported setting on scrap. Small fasteners can still exit unexpectedly or leave visible marks. We have not tested pin seating across hardwoods or compared this tool with NP35A.

Choose air when it already earns its place

NP35A is the pneumatic comparison for an existing suitable air setup. The M12 -20 tool needs separate power, even if the carpenter already owns M18 equipment: those battery systems differ. An apprentice doing only occasional small trim should first check whether the work requires pins at all. Price supported consumables and a complete power setup rather than buying because the tool looks compact.
