A conventional compact starting point
3404-20 offers a conventional half-inch chuck on the M12 platform. For supported pilot holes and assembly, that can be simpler than a separate installation-head system. Check material and bit capacity before relying on a compact drill for all site work. The voltage label is not a guarantee that a tool is either inadequate or universally sufficient.
Do not buy hammer mode for ordinary woodwork
Hammer mode is a separate feature for supported applications; ordinary timber drilling uses the appropriate drilling mode. Choose suitable bits, support the work and use controlled driving for assembly. The actual battery, bit and body determine access. If cabinets repeatedly restrict a straight approach, 2505-20’s interchangeable heads address a different problem than a conventional compact drill.
Apprentice and existing-owner value
If M12 power is already available and the supported holes fit, a bare tool may be coherent. Starting from zero calls for a complete battery-and-charger comparison. Some customer reviews come from the drill kit rather than the -20 offer, so kit praise is not evidence that batteries are included here. Upgrade when repeated drilling reveals a capacity limitation, not because a larger platform sounds more professional.
