A separate fastening role
3453-20 is a quarter-inch hex M12 impact driver. It can complement a drill used for pilot holes where repeated suitable fastening makes two tools useful. That does not mean every apprentice needs both on day one. Ask what the employer provides and which fastener systems you are expected to install before paying for another powered tool.
Access is more than a short body
The driver, bit and battery form the working envelope. A compact body can help some approaches but cannot guarantee access to every hinge, bracket or cabinet screw. Customer feedback describes the small format and suitable fastening experience; it should not be read as permission to impact-drive delicate hardware. A selectable operating mode is not a calibrated torque setting.
Compare the platform you already use
If M12 power is available and the fastening system permits impact driving, this is a coherent compact comparison. M18 2953-20 serves a different platform; DeWalt and Makita choices may avoid new charging equipment for their owners. Verify impact-rated accessories and the -20 bare-tool contents. The supported fastener method is more important than a brand or torque contest.
