Where this clamp earns its place
Pony #50 is a clamp fixture for suitable three-quarter-inch threaded pipe. The adjustable length strategy can suit workshop glue-ups with varied widths, but the fixture itself is not a complete clamp with a guaranteed opening. The pipe, its preparation and appropriate face protection are part of the purchase. Do not compare a fixture price directly with a ready-to-use bar clamp.
Size and contact arrangement
The manufacturer specifies 3/4-inch-14 NPT pipe and describes its multiple-disc clutch. Choose components according to those instructions rather than assuming any tube of a similar diameter fits. Support the work so the fixture does not become the sole reference for alignment. For localized flush pocket-hole assembly, Kreg's face clamp serves a different role; a long pipe does not replace that contact arrangement.
Choose a useful starter set
Buy this system when varied workshop lengths genuinely justify storing pipe and fixtures. Include compatible pipe, pads and enough clamps for the assembly when comparing against Bessey KRE3524 or long bar clamps. An apprentice moving between fitting jobs may find compact trigger clamps easier to carry. Upgrade the workshop arrangement for recurring glue-ups rather than equating the longest possible opening with the best starting kit.
